Abstract
Medical-dental tourism in the Americas has grown significantly due to reduced communication barriers and lower costs. This study aims to describe the bioethical perspective of medical-dental tourism in the Americas from the patients' viewpoint. A narrative review methodology was used. All referenced literature was published from January to November 2019 in databases such as Scopus, PubMed, and Base. The results provided 13 studies, evaluated using D.L. Sackett's systematization. Inclusion criteria were based on double-blind evaluation and bioethical components related to informed consent, equity of access to care, confidentiality, respect for autonomy, and professional competence. The findings established that there is no general or legal consensus on the approach to medical-dental tourists regarding rights, duties, informed consent, and equity of access to health services in the Americas. Although many articles have been published, further theoretical research is needed to fully understand patients' experiences
